Andrew Strong, JD

Mr. Strong is a partner in the Houston and Austin offices of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. He has represented private and public sector clients in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, energy, transportation and real estate industries. Previously, Mr. Strong served as the General Counsel and Compliance Officer for the Texas A&M University System. While General Counsel, he oversaw all legal matters for the system including business transactions, intellectual property matters, research and international trade compliance, litigation and real estate transactions. Following his work for Texas A&M, he helped lead the efforts in Texas to secure a multi-billion dollar federal contract for Texas to serve as a first line of defense for influenza pandemics and biological threats. As part of that effort, in 2011, he led the formation of a state-owned biomanufacturing company that would develop and manufacture vaccines and therapeutics for clinical and commercial supply. Under Mr. Strong’s leadership, the company (Kalon Biotherapeutics, LLC) grew to a staff of over 110 and secured substantial long-term agreements with large pharmaceutical and biotech companies as well as the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson) and the Texas A&M Center for Innovation in Advanced Development & Manufacturing. The company was sold in December 2014 to FUJIFILM and Mitsubishi Corporations. He received his law degree from South Texas College of Law and his BS in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M.
